In dit boek worden het ontstaan, de ontwikkeling, de diagnose en behandeling van stotteren besproken bij kinderen, jongeren en volwassenen. Naast de theorie over stotteren, staan twee benaderingen centraal: het Erasmus-viercomponentenmodel en het Demands and Capacities Model. De aanbevelingen voor diagnostiek en therapie volgen de Nederlandse Richtlijn Stotteren in de logopedie voor kinderen, adolescenten en volwassenen.
