In Diversity competence, interpersonal communication forms the point of departure: the meeting of people, not of cultures. From there onwards, the authors describe what diversity competence entails: which processes, challenges and skills are relevant in a ‘superdiverse’ world. The TOPOI model consequently offers an inclusive, communicative approach to analyze and address potential miscommunication.

Pathways to Empowerment helps counsellors to master an attitude and acquire the competences needed to do strength-based work with clients. The chapters provide practical insights by means of case studies and quotes from clients and counsellors. Het behandelt de diverse werkvelden in relatie tot de rollen en kerntaken die die professionals erin kunnen vervullen, en benoemt de competenties en expertise waarover zij dienen te beschikken. Naast de werkvelden is er aandacht voor onderwerpen als interprofessionele samenwerking, integraal werken, participatie en preventie.
