Stotteren is een complexe communicatiestoornis die niet altijd eenvoudig te verklaren of te behandelen is.Met de juiste diagnose en therapie is vaak een goed resultaat te behalen. In dit boek worden het ontstaan, de ontwikkeling, de diagnose en behandeling van stotteren besproken bij kinderen, jongeren en volwassenen. Naast de theorie over stotteren, staan twee benaderingen centraal: het Erasmus-viercomponentenmodel en het Demands and Capacities Model.
